今日はスピーカーの募集に関する重要なお知らせをいたします。
セッションスピーカーの募集について
WordCamp Tokyo 2023 ではセッションスピーカーを公募しないことといたしました。
こちらの理由について、以下にご説明します。
新しいセッション形式への挑戦
今回の WordCamp Tokyo 2023 では、これまでとは少し違った形でのセッションができないか検討しています。
詳しくは近日中に改めてご案内いたしますが、今回の WordCamp Tokyo 2023 では、主に「セッション＋パネルディスカッション」の形で「セッションとそのテーマに沿った形でのパネルディスカッション」をセットにして、参加していていただく皆さんに「よりわかりやすく、より自分ごととして感じていただけるような」セッションをご用意するよう準備を進めています。
セッションスピーカーとパネリスト
これに伴って、セッションのスピーカーとともにセッション後にパネリストとしてそのテーマについて一緒にディスカッションをしていただく人たちを検討する必要が出てきました。
セッションスピーカーを公募した場合、セッションのスピーカーとセッションのテーマが決まってからパネリストを検討しなくてはならず、限られた時間内では充分な検討ができないままイベント当日を迎えることになりかねないと考え、セッションテーマとそのスピーカーについては事前にセッションチームから個別にお声がけし、その後にスピーカーと共にセッションテーマに沿ったパネルディスカッションに登壇いただけるパネリストにお声がけすることとしました。
新しいセッション形式を検討した理由
これまでの WordCamp Tokyo でも、もちろん一般的なセッションやパネルディスカッションが行われていました。過去の WordCamp Tokyo でのセッションについては WordPress.tv や YouTube 、Flickrなどでその様子をご覧いただけます。
以前からセッションのテーマや内容によって初心者向け、開発者向けなどの区分はされてはいましたが、もちろん初心者が開発者向けのセッションに参加することも WordCamp ならではですし、開発者が初歩的なセッションに参加していけないことなどあるはずもありません。
とはいえ、「手を動かして操作してみる」ようなワークショップでもない限り、そのセッションで「よくわからない・難しい」と感じたことをその場で解決したり後日自分で試したりするのはなかなか難しいことです。
そういったときに、「セッション」ではあくまでも現状や今後の展望を紹介し、あるいは問題提起をおこない、その後のパネルディスカッションで「とはいえ実際のところどうなの？」であったり「自分はこう解決しているけど他の人はどう？」というような実際の状況に即した話を登壇者を交えてディスカッションすることで、聴講している参加者の立場や経験に関わらずその内容をより自分の問題として考えられ、「体験」として理解が進むのではないか、と私たちは考えています。
スピーカーの公募について
「スピーカーの公募が始まったらぜひ応募したい！」と思ってくださっている方々が（海外からも含め）多数いることは承知しています。ご期待いただきましてありがとうございます。
このことで皆さんに WordCamp Tokyo 2023 での登壇のチャンスが全く無くなってしまうということではありません。
こちらもまだ企画中ではありますが、当日夜に同会場内で開催予定のアフターパーティにおいて「懇親会 LT（ライトニングトーク）」の時間を用意する計画をしています。
この懇親会 LT では皆さまからセッションテーマを公募して、5分間の短い、しかし中身の濃いセッションをしていただく予定でおります。
この公募についてはまた改めてご案内差し上げますので、それまでぜひ楽しみにお待ちいただければと思います。

Today we have an important announcement regarding the call for speakers.
About Call for Speakers
We have decided not to do Call for Speakers for WordCamp Tokyo 2023.
We would like to share why we came to this conclusion.
Challenge to a new session format
We are considering the possibility of a slightly different session format for WordCamp Tokyo 2023.
We will announce the details soon, but for WordCamp Tokyo 2023, we will mainly use the “Session + Panel Discussion” format, which will combine a session with a panel discussion based on the topic of the session to make it “easier to understand” and “more personal” for everyone attending.
Session Speakers and Panelists
With this in mind, it has become necessary to consider about panelists who will discuss the topics after each session, in addition to the session speakers.
If we were to invite session speakers from the public, we would have to consider the panelists after the session speakers and session topics had been decided, which could lead to the day of the event without sufficient time to consider the session themes and panelists. The session team will then call for panelists who are willing to join the speakers for a panel discussion based on the session theme.
Reasons for the new session format
Previous WordCamp Tokyo has, of course, included general sessions and panel discussions. You can watch the sessions of past WordCamp Tokyo on WordPress.tv, YouTube, and Flickr.
Although the sessions have long been divided into beginner to developer oriented sessions depending on the topic and content, of course, it is only at WordCamp that beginners can attend sessions for developers, and there is no reason why developers should not attend rudimentary sessions.
However, unless it is a “hands-on” workshop, it is difficult to resolve on the spot what you find difficult or unclear in the session, or to try it out yourself at a later date.
In such cases, the “session” is to introduce the current situation and future prospects, or to raise issues, and then a panel discussion follows to ask “but what is the actual situation?” or “I have solved the problem this way, but what about other people?” We believe that this will allow participants to think about the issues as their own, regardless of their position or experience, and will help them to better understand the content of the session as an “experience”.
Lightning Talk Speakers
We are looking forward to hearing from those of you who are thinking, “I’d love to apply when the open call for speakers starts!” Of course we know that! Thank you for your expectation.
This does not mean that you will lose your chance to speak at WordCamp Tokyo 2023.
We are still in the planning stages, but we are planning to have a “After Party LT (Lightning Talk) Sessions” during the after-party to be held at the same venue on the night of the event.
For this lightning talk session, we are planning to invite everyone to submit a topic for a 5-minute session, which will be short but rich in content.
We will announce the details of the open call for the lightning talk session as soon as possible, so please look forward to it.
