WordPressの最前線で活躍する人たちがやってくる!

「WordPressの開発」と書くと、コア（Core）ソフトウェア開発のことだけを指すと思われるかもしれません。しかし、「WordPress」とはそれを支えるインフラやコミュニティ全体も含めたプロジェクトの名称であり、コア以外の開発や活動もたくさんあります。

バージョン毎のリリースとは関係なく、プロジェクトは現在14のチームに分かれて日々開発、活動が行われています。以前は8つくらいだったんですが、増えてました😅

すべてのチームはWordPress公式サイト内のmake.wordpress.orgセクションにそれぞれブログを持っており、進捗状況や開発者向けの技術情報を投稿されている他、コミュニティの意見を広く募りたい時などにも活用されてます。名称は長いので、「make（メイク）」とか「make.（メイクドット）」とか呼ばれています。

wordpress.orgが「店頭」であるならば、make.はまさに「工場」といえます。

WordPressを作っている人たちが来日、登壇する!

さて、各チームには管理人やコーディネーターがいて、先頭に立ってチームの舵取りをおこなっているのですが、WordCamp Tokyo 2016にはこの14チームのうち3チームの管理人が来日、登壇します！

テーマチームのウルリッヒ。ドキュメンテーションチームのジョン。多言語化チームのペティヤです。

スピーカーの皆さんのWordPress.orgプロフィールページ。

ウルリッヒは管理人をしている他、公式ディレクトリに掲載されるテーマの主要レビューアーの1人でもあり、それらの経験からWordPressプロジェクトに貢献する時に直面する成功や困難について語ってくれます。

ジョンはドキュメンテーションチームの管理人をしながら、他にも多くのチームにまたがって活動しています。その経験を元に、各チームが何をしているのか? どう連携しているのか? どのチームで貢献するのが良いのか? などを語ってくれます。

ペティヤは多言語化チームの管理人の1人として、また、世界で最も大規模なWordCampとなったWordCamp Europeのオーガナイザーの1人としても活躍しています。彼女の経験からヨーロッパにおけるWordPressコミュニティの成長について話してくれます。

ウルリッヒ、ジョン、ペティヤ、そしてコア・コミッターでありリリース・リードのマイク・シュローダー…。彼らはみんな、WordPressを「作っている」人たちの中でも最前線で今活躍されている方々です。

ちなみに、リリース・リードも、make.wordpress.orgの各チームの管理人も、未だ日本人/日本在住者がその役割を担ったことはありません。彼らの話を直に聞くには海外のWordCampへ足を運ぶか、今回のように来日してもらうしかありません。しかも、WordCamp Tokyo 2016では同時通訳付きで聞くことができます。ニュースや国際カンファレンスでよく目にするアレです。

Tickets for WordCamp Tokyo 2016 are now on sale!

There are several different types of tickets available, so please make sure you read Ticket Details first. Then, please purchase your tickets from the Tickets page.

Tickets

On the Tickets page, enter the number of tickets you would like to purchase, and click the orange button at the bottom (it says “登録→”).
On next page, enter your details. Three items which are not translated are: 名前 = First Name, 苗字 = Family Name, and メールアドレス = Email address. Again, click the orange button at the bottom (it says “支払いをする→”) and that will take you to the payment.

Notes

If you would like to help us on the day as a volunteer, please contact us.
Day 1/Day 2 tickets do not include the after party. We’ll be releasing after party tickets soon, so stay tuned for future updates!
If you are under 18 years old, you can attend the event for free. However, registration is needed nevertheless, so please purchase your ticket(s).
Method of payments are by Paypal or by credit card (via Paypal).

スピーカー情報第1弾

スピーカー情報の第1弾はグローバル・トラックの3名で、いずれも精力的にWordPressに貢献されている方々です。マイクはリリース・リード（※）を2度経験、ウルリッヒとジョンはそれぞれコントリビューション・チームで管理人をしており、文字通りプロジェクトの最前線で貢献されている方々です。この3名にはWordPressへのコントリビューションと、それが彼らの人生やキャリアにどのような影響を与えたかなどについて、体験を共有してくれる予定です。

なお、グローバル・トラックはすべてのセッションが英語で行われますが、今年は同時通訳でお楽しみいただけます。

※WordPressはバージョン毎にリリース・リードを任命します。リリース・リードはそのバージョンの言わばプロジェクトリーダーであり、開発が円滑に進むようコミュニケーションを取り持ち、予定通りにリリースできるよう調整するファシリテーターです。WordPressは3.5以降、交代でリリース・リードを任命しています。

Mike Schroder（マイク・シュローダー）

マイクはコア・コミッターであり、WordPress 4.5ではリリース・リードを務め、WordPress 3.9では共同リードを務めています。彼は米国のホスティング会社DreamHostにてWordPress専門のスタッフとして働いています。

Announcing the first round of speakers!

We are delighted to announce the first round of speakers of the Global Track – that’s the track which will be conducted in English. Mike, Ulrich, and Jon are all active contributors to the WordPress.org project. They will be sharing with us about contributing to WordPress.org, and how it has affected their life, careers, and beyond.

Mike Schroder

Mike is a Core Committer, who has been the Release Lead for WordPress 4.5 and a co-lead for WordPress 3.9. He works at DreamHost, a US-based hosting company, as a WordPress Platform Lead.

Ulrich is a dedicated WordPress Core contributor, especially as an admin of the Theme Review Team. He is a founder of @WPBern and @WPZOO.

Call for Speakers

WordCamp Tokyo 2016 will be held on 17-18 September, 2016. It will be the 9th WordCamp to take place in the Tokyo area (eight in Tokyo, once in Yokohama). As usual, we are planning to host sessions ranging from user to technical, and from beginners to advanced. Also, building on last year’s first-ever English session series, this year, we are going to have a whole track of English talks with simultaneous interpretation.

We are now accepting submissions for the speakers, both for English and Japanese tracks. Please read on for more details.

All candidates will be informed by mid-July, whether or not their talk is accepted.

As the world’s most popular open-source CMS, WordPres has a huge number of users. Types of users vary widely from those who are using WordPress as a journal (blog), a website for their business, or a development tool that excites geeks. Whichever type of user/developer you are, we believe that the stories you share will inspire others.

“Let’s try Something new.”

That is the message we want to get across to the WordCamp Tokyo 2016 attendees. Our goal is offer sessions that can motivate and stimulate them, just like the beam of sunlight in the dawn.

(There will be no session on Sunday the 18th, which is the Contributor Day)

(Shinjuku, Tokyo)
Session Lengths: 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 75 minutes
Application Deadline: Friday, 10 June, 2016, 23:59 JST (UTC+9)

We will notifiy the result of your application by mid-July.

Application Requirements

Applicants must meet all the requirements below.

You have experiences in using WordPress, to develop/design/maintain/plan blogs, websites, services, application, or systems.
You agree what is written in Agreement among WordCamp Organizers, Speakers, Sponsors, and Volunteers, and you pass the 100% GPL Vetting Checklist.
You agree in allowing us to take and openly share the photographs and video recordings ( and the live streaming if we do) of your session. As well as, you agree to openly share your session slides after the event.
You will be punctual in submitting your session details and slides.

What we’re Looking For

In WordCamp Tokyo 2016, we are looking for three areas of topics: “User”, “Technical”, and “Global”. Below are descriptions and examples for each topics.

Remember, examples are just examples! Please do not hesitate to submit a talk which you think it will be a great addition to WordCamp Tokyo 2016.

You know someone else who will be a good speaker for WordCamp Tokyo 2016? Please let them know about it 🙂

1. User

WordPress-related stories from a user’s point of view. Share your experiences in using WordPress as a blog or a website. Your talk doesn’t need to be technical. Your stories could be an encouragement for other WordPress users.

Examples

How blogging on WordPress changed my life.
Success stories of e-commerce websites or web services using WordPress.
Utilization of WordPress in NPO or Education fields.

2. Technical

Are you a designer or developer? Why not talk about latest trends, case studies of WordPress site development, use of WordPress in large scale websites, etc. Or a story on how you learn to develop WordPress site.

Example

Accessibility
Using JavaScript in/with WordPress
UX
Use of WP REST API in, for example, developing a smartphone app.
Site structure desining, information architecture, security, etc.

3. Global

Do you have any WordPress related stories, which makes you feel you are “connected” to the World? Because of the large user share of the WordPress in the World, there are many chances which you can get connected, or to interact, or to get to know each other, beyond your local community. Let’s hear your unique stories.

Example

Experiences in contributing to the WordPress Core, or related make.wordpress.org projects.
Releasing plugins or Themes, and getting responses from around the world–what is it like?
Are you from outside Japan? What are your local communities like?
Have you been to many WordPress events around the World? What are they like?

Note on the language and tracks:

We are planning to have three tracks – User, Technical, and Global – corresponding to each topic. The Global track will be conducted in English, and we are working on providing simultaneous interpretations from English to Japanese and vice versa (if needed). On the other hand, The User and Technical track will be conducted in Japanese only, with no interpretations. Because of this, all speakers presenting in English will be in Global track, regardless of their topics.
